Rudy Hayek

Rudy earned his Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University (APU), in 2008. As a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern, he has had the privilege of working with a diverse clientele demographic, including children, teens, couples, families, and individuals. His personal experience as a stepfather of two daughters has also helped him empathize and sympathize with the variety of challenges affecting all members of blended families.

“Without Health, Life is not Life”, Buddha. Rudy’s passion for helping people create change has taken many forms during his lifetime. Through his experiences as a personal trainer, an endurance athlete, and a Black Belt in Japanese Karate (Shotokai), he has practiced and taught the art of integrating and balancing the physical, mental, and spiritual parts of our being. This triad can be a powerfully transformative process when it is paired appropriately with one’s personality strengths, commitment, and lifestyle. Rudy’s personal triumph over a variety of challenging life experiences has also uniquely positioned him to be a compassionate, empathetic therapist, who also never misses an opportunity to incorporate humor within a session.

Ralph Waldo Emerson suggested that, “Unless you try something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow”. Whether working with individuals or families, Rudy’s variety of therapeutic styles and orientation focus on revealing strengths and overcoming persistent self-limiting behaviors and destructive patterns. Healthy growth requires honest, self-examination and taking responsibility for one’s decisions. With families, intervention can range from the simple and practical, such as helping them create a family calendar, where everyone can remain connected with each other, plan dates for spending quality time together, while simultaneously reducing the anxiety and uncertainty that can often accompany a very busy and fragmented lifestyle, to more complex interventions as needed.

Cicero once said, “We were born to unite with our fellow men, and to join in community with the human race”. Rudy believes that giving back to one’s community and society is a necessary and natural part of living a fulfilling, complete life. As a member of Rotary International since 1999, he and his wife have volunteered their time and treasure toward local and international humanitarian causes and projects. The abundance of personal growth, appreciation of life, and self-humility are immeasurable peripheral benefits can be gained when we participate in life beyond the boundaries of our own comfort zone.
