“We need people in our lives with whom we can be as open as possible. To have real conversations with people may seem like such a simple, obvious suggestion, but it involves courage and risk.”
― Thomas Moore, Care of the Soul: A Guide for Cultivating Depth and Sacredness in Everyday Life
I think of therapy as an opportunity for quiet and deep reflection in a world where we are constantly overwhelmed and busy. The consulting room can be a space for everything from healing or mourning, to creative expression or down-to-earth problem solving.
It is part of my personal philosophy and training to think of every new client as a dignified whole human being--the ultimate goal then is to increase your quality of life, not just treat symptoms.
I like to learn client's individual perspective and values in life. People of diverse backgrounds and life experiences are more than welcome and make up most of my clients.
There is no single recipe for psychotherapy. I use a variety of approaches depending on your specific needs as a client.
My undergraduate studies in education and experience as an instructor working with children and teenagers has given me a special appreciation for the importance of early developmental years. I also have experience working with adults facilitating groups dealing with substance abuse.
At one point or another we all could use some help. I believe psychotherapy could be a valuable resource as part of your effort toward healing, growth, and happiness.
